レビュー (Amazon)
Anyone looking to comprehend the understated power of the Rat Pack should first read Nick Tosches's brilliant Dean Martin biography Dino: Living High in the Dirty Business of Dreams. By cutting past nightclub cliches to matters both carnal and appreciably dark, Tosches locates the music and the period's special appeal. Looking to take that bygone era a few steps closer to absurdity, try this collection--a mop-up of tracks featured in the movie Swingers, but left off the original soundtrack. Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Mel Torme, and the awkward Ann-Margret are all naturals and deserve to be here. But you have to wonder who invited Paul Anka to this party. Probably the same joker who added Marty & Elaine's cover of the Bee Gees' "Staying Alive" and Heart's completely out-of-place hard rock contribution, "Magic Man." Very strange, indeed. --Rob O'Connor
