レビュー (Amazon)
Roy Budd's marvellous main theme for The Wild Geese (1978) has always sounded a little like someone whipped up a version of Lawrence of Arabia on a parade ground. It definitely has an epic sweep to one portion, with all the celebratory pomp you'd expect from a squad marching in unison for the remainder. It's a bit of a jarring switch to have Joan Armatrading's warbling follow straight after in "Flight Of The Wild Geese". To say that at least it gets it out the way with early is perhaps the subtlest way of inferring how dated the song sounds (sadly also true of "Dance With Death" by Mark and Jerry Donahue). Budd's decidedly non- jazz sounding score is full of snare drums and martial accoutrements, sounding just like a war movie score should. This disc features a particularly fine sound transfer from its original source--one of the best in the Cinephile series of Budd re-issues. --Paul Tonks
