レビュー (Amazon) The songs accompanying Bart Freundlich's romantic comedy Trust the Man are fittingly low-key, literate, well-crafted and a bit bland: you're not likely to hate any of the tracks, but you probably won't find one that will rock your world. Libby Johnson provides a through line with four tracks of acoustic, gently swaying singer-songwriter balladry. That vibe dominates the CD, whether in a bit of urban-cabaret wistfulness ("Everlasting No" by Dave's True Story) or spooky lounge-goth flair (Kelly Padrick's "Pizza & Fairytales"). The one deviation is the last, Uncle Carl's "Have a Hap, Hap, Happy Christmas," which sounds like a Squirrel Nut Zippers outtake. --Elisabeth Vincentelli |
