レビュー (Amazon)Combining the cheesy fun of
Ed Wood with the grandeur of
Looking For Richard, this is one of Howard Shore' s most accessibly appealing scores. Central to deciphering the intended tone is "Mooby the Golden Calf". A children's choir chants director Kevin Smith' s lyrics about being in the cartoon character's troops, backed by a bouncing carnival march. Taking this as your lead, you'll appreciate that the surrounding organ blasts, bell clanging, low brass, and heavenly choir are all reverent in a most irreverent way. The movie is about faith and how to keep it by not taking life so seriously. In that way, the heroic fanfares of "Behold the Metatron" and the ethereal call of the ondes martenot in "The Last Scion" become humorously respectful portraits of monotheistic iconography. The score is preceded by the Alanis Morissette song "Still", which carries lyrics that accord to the questioning quest taken by the movie. With purposely-defined acoustics, this is definitely one of the most intelligently conceived and produced soundtracks of 1999.
