レビュー (Amazon)Getting past just how to pronounce the title, you then have a choice of which title track to go with. The one at the start, or at the end? Your introduction is in a style that Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western fans will recognise, layering whistles, guitars, percussion, and brass elements one on top of the other. By the time you arrive at the longer version for the final track, the thematic material has been shaped by Juanjo Dominguez's virtuoso guitar playing into a dizzying dance floor tango. The cues "Los Olvidados", "Tango" (!), "La Ultima Careta" and "Los Andes" are the main showcases but with "Malambo" there's an astonishing composite of several guitars talking in harmony--at breakneck pace! Lalo Schifrin's pieces around these either tread softly at a lackadaisical pace, or explode immediately into a rattling fusion of jazz effects upon Latin American percussion, laced with piano and strings ("La Ruta"). One of the loveliest results is "Recuerdos" in which everything is blended behind a repeating flute melody. The feeling of watching a Latin American street band is inescapable.
