レビュー (Amazon)The set-piece of this Alistair Maclean thriller is a breathtaking 10-minute car chase (second only to
Bullitt, perhaps). The music playing around wailing sirens and screeching tyres had to be carefully thought through and Roy Budd went with his jazz tradition, pumping it up with as much fire as would fit. The disc gives you "The Car Chase" with sound FX left in to demonstrate it is possible to score action with a little melody and still be heard. Set in Louisiana, the film called for a dreamy bluesiness every so often and the composer was more than up for creating the background pieces "Louisiana Ferry" and "Bayou Blues". Their instrumental make-up is not dissimilar from the score proper, the "Main Theme" popping in and getting larger scale treatment on strings doubled by xylophone. That's until the end of "From Sea Bed To Surface", where Budd plays out the album with a catchy piano rendition.
