The head-bobbing starts immediately when the Postal Service opens things up "Such Great Heights," a crafty track that will provide indie rock fans who still love the Pet Shop Boys their guilty fix. A few songs in, the cleverness continues with the dysfunctional-woman anthem "Portions for Foxes" by L.A.'s Rilo Kiley, a tune that will have you quoting sharp lyrics to Desperate girlfirends for days. Other must-have music includes Mike Doughty (former lead singer of Soul Coughing) with "Looking At The World From The Bottom Of A Well," and the gorgeous Bjork-meets-Cat-Power stylings of Inara George on the lucious "Fools In Love." The disc highlight (from a talented vocalist named Roisin Murphy) is the sassy "Ruby Blue"--the kind of Macy Gray-funk that makes you want to see her live, immediately. In addition to the expected acoustical numbers (in this case, from Anya Marina, KT Tunstall, and Snow Patrol's live version of "Chasing Cars"), the album reaches across genres and continents to offer the sunny-'60s-pop vibe of Jim Noir's "I Me You," Jamie Lidell's electro-jazzy "Multiply," the edgy punky-pop aggro of Metric, the rambunctious "Sexy Mistake" from the Chalets, and the winning singalong misanthropy of singer-songwriter Foy Vance's "I Hate Everyone." Ursula 1000's Alex Gimeno lightens up the proceedings with one of his trademark upbeat, hip-gyrating numbers (which seems to pay tribute to Serge Gainsbourg's "Comic Strip"), while the Moonbabies' sweet, swirling harmonies deliver the kind of perfectly crafted pop we've come to expect from the Swedes. One of the most infectious indie-pop songs of the past few years, "Young Folks" plays off the sweet guest vocals of former Concretes Victoria Bergsman to rocket up into feel-good stratosphere. The rest of this collection does not quite reach these dizzy heights, dragged back down to earth by the ballads that pretty much make up the second half. Still, no wonder Grey's Anatomy soundtracks do so well: They tend to focus on melodic, accessible music of the indie persuasion, but they are also cannily curated, mixing emerging artists with more established (but not necessarily marquee) names. The third Grey's volume boasts a trio of new tracks by Mat Kearney, Gomez, and John Legend, but they're oddly sappy (Legend fares better than the other two). Among the acts who might well benefit from the exposure are Koop and "Come to Me," a fantastically bouncy electronica-swing tune (an odd mix, but it works); Bill Ricchini and his lovely "A Cold Wind Will Blow Through Your Door," a testament to its author's ability to update classic pop-troubadour sounds of the '60s and '70s; and Jesus Jackson's "Running on Sunshine", because why walk on sunshine when you can run on it? --Elisabeth Vincentelli ⇒詳細ページへ

   「他の病院ドラマはもういいよ」と言いたくなるくらい、グレイズ・アナトミーはおもしろいTVドラマだ。このABCの連続ドラマはビッグなスターも出演せず、派手な宣伝もなく、2005年春よりシーズン中の代替として始まったが、9つのエピソードから成る第1シーズンは正真正銘のヒットとなった。『ハウス』の医療ミステリーと、『ドーソンズ・クリーク』の青春ドラマと、親しみやすいポップロックのサウンドトラックを合わせた、架空のシアトル・グレース病院の外科でインターンとして刺激し合う5人のドラマだ。元モデルで楽天的なイジー（キャサリン・ハイグル）、臆病で小心者のジョージ（T・R・ナイト）、競争心がとても強いクリスティーナ（サンドラ・オー）、うぬぼれ屋で女性好きのアレックス（ジャスティン・チェンバーズ）、そしてタイトルにもなっているメレディス・グレイ（エレン・ポンピオ）。他に、著名な外科医でグレイに影響を与えるが現在認知症となっている母や、グレイとただならぬ関係になる外科医テレク・シェパード（ロブ・ロウ以来という復活を成したパトリック・デンプシー）が登場する。医療を背景に、これらの医師たちが恋愛をしたり、互いを傷つけあわないように友情を育てていく。
   この『グレイズ・アナトミー』のシーズン1は面白いが、そのスタイルやメレディスのあまりに極端なナレーション（"At the end of the day faith is a funny thing"）や寄せ集めのような音楽などやや行き過ぎている。病院ドラマとしては行き過ぎではないが（70ポンドの腫瘍の患者や、当直待機の部屋での逢引など行き過ぎのものもあるが）、ほほえましく明るい感じだ。オープニングのクレジット部分で、医療器具の隣にビューラーがあったり、シーツをかぶった男性患者が赤いペディキュアに惹かれたりといった軽すぎる部分もある）。
   ポンペオは目を閉じて聞いているとレニー・ゼルウィガーが話しているように聞こえて好ましいが、他の共演者に比べるとやや存在感が弱い。だが幸いにもセリフがおもしろい上、エミー賞の助演女優賞にノミネートされたチャンドラ・ウィルソン (＜ナチ＞と呼ばれるドクター・ベイリー役）を初めとする人種に富んだキャストの素晴らしい演技はそれを埋め合わせるにあまりある。（Ellen A. Kim, Amazon.com）
